I spent the day reading “Hyrule Historia”, the final thing that would make separate me from “Just a fan” to “Keeper of some of the Wonderful Magic that is Zelda” or just “Zelda Historian” for short.
What is “Hyrule Historia”? Well, for those of you interested, stick around.
Hyrule Historia is a book that was released only in Japan as apart of Zelda’s 25th Anniversary last year in 2011. It was eventually translated, and now is in the palm of us greedy Americans.
But what is Hyrule Historia? Like I said, it is a book that holds Information on the new Zelda game, “Skyward Sword”, tons of concept art and rough sketches from previous Zelda games and recent ones alike, and most importantly, A complete timeline of the Legend of Zelda. And yes, it takes a day to read. It’s so full of lore and magic and mystery, I was balls excited, so I dug right in.
I wasn’t upset my whole day was spent in front of the computer, I had gone running earlier, so my exercise karma is good.
Okay, to be honest, it won’t take you a day to read, but to fully analyze, understand, and reminisce? Oh most definitely. I was looking up words in dictionaries, I was making predictions of what would come where, I even ran into a spot where my nostalgia got the best of me and I was looking up sweet end liners from “The Wind Waker”. It was a nostalgia bomb. But most importantly, I found out the truth.
Three timelines. one extremely depressing, one that sort of had a middle feeling about it, and one that ended on a rather nice and exciting note.
Three timelines may confuse you, that’s why I invite you to come with me to a Paradise Bakery (IT MUST BE PARADISE, NOWHERE ELSE WORKS), and listen to one of the timelines. But don’t do that, because you’ll look like a nerd.
ANYWAY, you didn’t read all of this. That’s fine. I don’t really care. People have all sorts of ways of finding their own little magic in this world. Some find it through science and logic, some find it through myths and folklore, most people find it with things like Disney. But me? Zelda will always be my source of magic, one adventure at a time.
Endnote: Historia also includes amazing artwork that I drooled over, and a sweet comic book at the end. If you’re interested, look it up on google. Become a Zelda Scholar, and pretend you know everything that there is to know. Have a goodnight.
